Track of the Day: “Cape Dory”

Talk about the path not taken! Tennis is a husband-wife duo, Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, who met while studying philosophy in college in the state of Colorado. While many philosophy majors might cook up a daydream involving selling their earthly possessions after graduation and buying a small sailboat, these two actually did it. And they spent the next seven months roving up and down the Eastern seaboard, “at an average speed of five miles an hour,” as their press materials note.

Now, if that wasn’t enough to turn you green with envy, the fact that they returned to dry land and wrote an album of songs about the joys of that ocean adventure just might. Especially since it has generated positive buzz and a tour that saw them headlining a show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom in early March.

Caught this band at the tail-end of 2010 and cannot wait for their album to come out. Definitely get the EP, called Baltimore, out now.
